Who we are

The collective voice of social marketing in Ghana's SRH sector

SMOC brings together the social marketing organisations (SMOs) working in Ghana's sexual and reproductive health sector: AYA Collective, DKT International Ghana, Total Family Health Organisation (TFHO), MSI Reproductive Choices Ghana, the Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana (PPAG) and Health Keepers Network.

Our members bring condoms, pills, injectables, implants, IUDs and other quality-assured products to pharmacies, clinics and shops across the country. Beyond products, we train health providers and support service-quality supervision with the Ghana Health Service.

A "third type" of organisation

We earn revenue from selling affordable products, but we do not share profits. Every surplus cedi goes back into the mission.

Every product we supply protects a family

Products are converted to couple-years of protection, then to health outcomes. Child-death estimates rely on the link between birth spacing and child survival and are less precise than the other figures. DALYs are years of healthy life saved.

Why now

A moment of opportunity for Ghana's family planning

Ghana is building its own path to full commodity self-reliance by 2030. Social marketing organisations already have the networks, the products and the track record to help get there, and partners who join now can shape what comes next.

A ready national channel

Our members already reach pharmacies, clinics and shops in every region, including underserved rural and urban communities.

Proven, measured results

Over 1.25 million unintended pregnancies averted by just two members in three years, with figures verified by a recognised tool.

Value for every cedi

Because surplus is reinvested, support to SMOC members keeps working: more products, lower prices and better services.

Stronger together

One coalition voice makes it easier for government, donors and companies to partner with the whole sector at once.

Our key activities in 2026

Six priorities for lasting access

PRIORITY 1

Commodity tax waiver

A concept note asking the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Finance and GRA to list family planning and SRH commodities on the Essential Medicines List, so they clear the ports tax-free and faster.

PRIORITY 2

Official launch, 28 October 2026

At Sunlodge Hotel, Accra, with about 100 guests from government, regulators and partners, including the signing of the SMOC Commitment Charter.

PRIORITY 3

Recognition and registration

Registering SMOC as a national NPO, and making the case for SMOs as a distinct regulatory category.

PRIORITY 4

Shared evidence

Pooling members' health-impact and import-volume data, plus research on policy barriers such as self-injectable DMPA-SC access in pharmacies.

PRIORITY 5

Engaging government

Working with the GHS Family Health Division and others on the national domestic financing plan for family planning commodities, including the private-sector share by 2030.

PRIORITY 6

Quality and visibility

Anti-counterfeit action to protect clients, and a shared identity for a stronger public voice.

How we work
